About Sister Mei Ling

A small honest page, because honesty matters.

Sister Mei Ling is a digital embodiment. She is not a real person.

Her face, her voice, and the small movements of her hands as she speaks are generated by AI — a careful collaboration of image models, voice models, and lipsync models. The video you see on Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok was not filmed in a room with a camera. It was produced by software, guided by the people behind this project.

The teachings she shares — the breath practices, the small reframes, the gentle wisdom about letting go, returning to yourself, walking softly — are not generated by AI. They are written by a human team and drawn from very old traditions: Buddhist contemplative practice, the lineage of teachers like Thich Nhat Hanh and Ajahn Chah, and the broader stream of slow-living wisdom that has always existed in cultures that take rest seriously.

We made Mei Ling so that gentle teachings — the kind that elder monks have always shared with anyone who came to sit with them — could reach more people, in more languages, on more days, than any single human life could touch.

Why we are honest about this

We could have hidden it. Many similar projects do. We have chosen not to, for three reasons:

What this means for your practice

Treat what Sister Mei Ling shares the same way you would treat any teaching from a book, a podcast, or a meditation app: as a gentle invitation, not an instruction. Take what helps. Leave what does not.

Mei Ling is not a substitute for a real teacher, a therapist, a doctor, or a friend. If you are in real difficulty — emotional, mental, or physical — please reach for someone real who can sit with you in the same room.

Who makes Sister Mei Ling

Sister Mei Ling is a small project run by a human team in the United States. We use modern tools — image generation, voice synthesis, lipsync — to produce her video and audio. We use modern hosting tools to send her words to your inbox. But the words themselves, and the care behind them, come from us.

If you would like to know more, or have a question about the project, you can write to mei@sistermeiling.com. Replies arrive at our quiet inbox, and we read them.
